On Tuesday 13th August meetings of Cheveley Parish Council and Cheveley Pavilion & Recreation Ground Charity were held in the Garden Room at Cheveley Parish Hall.  Six Councillors were present together with District and County Councillor Alan Sharp and four members of the public.

At the meeting of Cheveley Pavilion & Recreation Ground Charity it was reported that a large number of caravans belonging to travellers had been driven on to the Recreation Ground on a recent Sunday afternoon.   However, following swift action by the Clerk and Parish Council they had left in an orderly fashion before the deadline imposed by the Bailiffs on the following Tuesday morning.   A group of residents and councillors met during that afternoon and all remaining litter was collected and disposed of.   This event led to the Council considering erecting a more secure fence whilst maintaining easy access to the facilities so that they can continue to be enjoyed by all.   Quotations would be obtained and the fence would be installed as soon as possible. Vehicle access to the sports field would be locked to the general public with height restrictions in place.  Other quotations would be acquired to improve the accessibility to the pavilion and play area including essential disabled access.

Cheveley Sports Club were thanked for the information that they supplied as part of the ongoing feasibility study for the possible 3×3 Basketball project. The next step is for councillors to obtain the estimated costs involved. In view of the other higher priority work needed at the Recreation Ground and limited resources it was noted that the feasibility study would likely take a little longer to complete than originally expected.

Storage facilities at the pavilion were considered and a group of councillors would meet there to sort and dispose of contents of one of the store rooms which would then probably be a better facility for the Sports Club to use.

At the Parish Council meeting all residents of Cheveley Parish were urged to support the adoption of the Neighbourhood Plan at the referendum to be held on Thursday 12th September in the Parish Hall.   The plan will then be used by East Cambridgeshire District Council when considering planning applications therefore giving residents of the Parish more input when decisions are made.

There was a lot of disquiet from residents regarding disruption locally caused by the building of a new development at Little Green, Cheveley, by Denbury Homes. The Parish Council agreed to contact the developers to raise residents’ concerns.

The local highways survey had been delivered to residents and some responses had been received.

Landowners would be reminded of their responsibility to maintain rights of way that cross their land.

It was unanimously agreed that the remaining balance of the loan taken out for the purchase and renovation of the former United Reformed Church Hall which is now Cheveley Parish Hall would be repaid in full.

Please note that there will be no meetings in September this year.  The next meetings will be held on Tuesday 8th October at 7.30 p.m. in the Garden Room of Cheveley Parish Hall.   For information on this or any other matter please refer to the website (www.cheveley-pc.gov.uk), contact via: clerk@cheveley-pc.gov.uk, or telephone 07483 107014.
