On Tuesday 10th December meetings of Cheveley Parish Council and Cheveley Pavilion & Recreation Ground Charity were held in the Garden Room at Cheveley Parish Hall. All eight Councillors were present together with District and County Councillor Alan Sharp. 3 members of the public were also in attendance.
The meeting of Cheveley Pavilion & Recreation Ground Charity commenced at 7.30 p.m. with the news that work towards the upgrading of access and safety measures was progressing well. A contractor had been appointed to undertake the installation of a footpath from the car park to the pavilion. A decision as to the specification of the height barrier and vehicle access gates had been made and It had also been agreed to create a hedge barrier around the car park to deter small children and dogs from gaining access to the road.
Further progress had been made to sort out the left storeroom at the Pavilion. Some items from there would be moved to the Parish Hall, a few would remain there and the rest would be donated elsewhere or disposed of. There would be a working party on 21st December to complete this.
The five dead trees situated near the retaining wall at the Recreation Ground would be felled and removed. It was no longer thought to be necessary to remove a young self-seeded Ash tree from close to the car park entrance.
A meeting of Cheveley Parish Council commenced at 7.43 p.m. Road Safety was once again a concern to many residents. A recent survey showed that the most worrying issue highlighted was at Little Green in Cheveley Village where the road between Icknield Close and the Red Lion had no footpath despite an increase in potential users due to recent developments in that area. Other areas of concern were at Park Road, Duchess Drive and Ashley Road.
Highways Department at Cambridgeshire County Council had been informed that the white lines need repainting at the junction of Park Road and Duchess Drive. There had been recent accidents there. There had also been a recent accident close to the school where a car had overturned.
The Parish Hall continued to be used regularly by many organisations and another Farmers’ Market had been held on 8th December. Details of regular bookings can be found on the noticeboard outside the building.
The next meetings will be held on Tuesday 14th January at 7.30 p.m. in the Garden Room of Cheveley Parish Hall. For information on this or any other matter please refer to the website (www.cheveley-pc.gov.uk), contact via: clerk@cheveley-pc.gov.uk, or telephone 07483 107014.
