Cheveley Annual Parish Meeting and Cheveley Parish Council Meeting
Residents of Cheveley held the Parish meeting in the Parish Hall on Tuesday 13th June. There were several Parishioners present including representatives of various groups and organisations. In the absence of the Chairman of the Parish Council, James Hadlow, the meeting was chaired by the Vice Chair Rob Treanor.
Following approval of the minutes for the previous year’s meeting presentations were made. The McCalmont Cup was presented to Tracy Grimster for her sustained involvement in many aspects of Parish life over many years including running the Little Angels Group for young children. The award for Young Volunteer of the Year was jointly awarded to Sophie and Lena Szczebak who had given up some of their leisure time in school holidays to pick up litter for the past three years.
Reports were received from various groups and organisations on their progress over the last twelve months.
Audited accounts for 2021/2022 and unaudited accounts for 2022/2023 were available on the Council’s website.
A report on the Cheveley Recreation Ground and Pavilion Charity was produced which indicated that necessary remedial work would be carried out over the next few months particularly on the Pavilion which was badly in need of repairs.
Residents were informed that the Neighbourhood Plan was nearing completion thanks to the diligent work of former Councillor Alli Day and Council Chairman James Hadlow.
Comments were received on the benefits of the Parish Hall which had been officially opened in 2022 by Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant of Cambridgeshire, Mrs Julie Spence, as part of the Jubilee celebrations.
Members of the public offered feedback on the publicity of the Annual Parish meeting, the acoustics in the Parish Hall and the Parish Council’s website.
It was hoped that applications from Parishioners would be received to fill the current vacancies on the Parish Council. Full details on how to apply can be obtained from the Clerk.
Immediately following the Annual meeting of the Parish, meetings of Cheveley Parish Council and Cheveley Pavilion & Recreation Ground Charity were held in Cheveley Parish Hall. Six Councillors were present together with District and County Councillor Alan Sharp. In the absence of newly appointed Chairman James Hadlow, away on business, the meeting was chaired by the new Vice Chairman Rob Treanor.
Sue Willows had signed her acceptance of office form prior to this meeting.
The clerk was awaiting quotations for the repair of the war memorial.
The exterior light at the Parish Hall had again been damaged and quotes were being obtained for a replacement
Steak and Honour had operated from the Parish Hall Car Park for a second time.
The Clerk had attended a two day course in respect of burials/cemetery practices. There had been concerns regarding fencing erected around a grave but this had been removed.
East Cambridgeshire District Council had confirmed that it will be providing new litter picking equipment and would be running a competition for Parishes to compete to collect the most litter.
At the meeting of Cheveley Pavilion and Recreation Ground Charity which followed it was reported that some money had been stolen from a child’s purse at the play area. Although the parent wanted to check the CCTV this could not be released to a member of the public. However a message would be put on the Chit Chat Facebook page to highlight the issue.
Safety issues with play equipment that had been highlighted in a recent report would be dealt with as soon as possible.
Sadly the tulip tree, which had been purchased to replace the vandalised one, had also been vandalised.
